CHORISTERS

The pandemic has had a devastating effect on Lichfield Cathedral’s finances, as nearly all income streams have ceased. At risk is the 800 year unique heritage of choral singing, integral to the Cathedral’s tradition of musical excellence and worship.

Your gift will provide school fee support to enable talented boys and girls to attend Lichfield Cathedral School and sing with the Lichfield Cathedral Choir. We don’t want finance to be a barrier to becoming a chorister, and your support will provide access to an outstanding education as well as choral training of the highest quality.

By singing regularly in the Cathedral, choristers build confidence and learn how to perform under pressure with both dignity and grace. These skills, plus the inevitable good time management skills and self-motivation they develop, are extremely valuable in all aspects of school and life beyond education. Choristers tend to be our busiest and most high achieving students who achieve success in many ways, whatever their personal path, whether that be through music, the arts, sport, industry or commerce.

Sacred music is critical to the spiritual life of the Cathedral to praise God, provide solace and teach lessons, but its primary power, to create a community of togetherness in faith and joy, is what we need most right now. If you want to be able to enjoy choral music in the future during evensong and Eucharists, at weddings, christenings, Christmas and feast days, we need you to support choristers today.

Your gift will help us to find girls and boys with potential and teach them to become outstanding musicians, enabling them to create beautiful choral harmonies that feed the soul and bring communities together at a level beyond language.
